A new reform of the basic education curriculum has been tried out since on September in2001. The school is the basic unit as the concept of the curriculum reform and the practice ofthe objective. It is based on the key figure in a school---a headmaster whether curriculum thatis advocated by new curriculum could be used in a school and become a popular curriculumunderstood and accepted or not by the teacher. To counter this background, my thesis focuseson the study of a change of the role of a headmaster under the reform of the new curriculumwith the method of qualitative research. Introduction presents the basic thought of the thesisform three aspects, namely, the background of the study, the purpose and the meaning of thestudy, the process and the method of the study. The body of the thesis contains five parts: InChapter One, it is about the general ideas on the study of the role of a headmaster. It presentsthe present achievements through three parts, namely, the explanations of the role, theunderstanding of the traditional role of a headmaster, the research level of headmaster's role athome and abroad from the definition of relative concept. Chapter Two centers on theintroduction and analysis of the case study, including nature environment and cultureenvironment of the school. In Chapter Three, the real role of a headmaster is presented withthree aspects, such as description of a headmaster's daily life, school activities and analysis ofthe paper. Chapter Four focuses on a case study. It contains three aspects: the understanding ofthe headmaster to her role, the understanding to a change of role and the difficulties in thecourse of the change of role. In Chapter Five, it proposes some appropriate tactics to thedifficulty in the course of the change of role. It concludes five tactics: the headmaster how totreat the reformation of new curriculum rightly and have a clear picture of himself in the roleof the reformation of new curriculum;the headmaster has to pay more attention to thecommunication with the parents and concern the children's growth together;the headmastershould put to use the headmaster substitute and promote the teacher to be a self-master;theeducation institute should change his traditional work style so that the school can have enoughroom to develop;the whole society should try to perfect the reformation of the evaluationsystem.
