| The new century, the new objects of English study ,the new standard f English teachingand the new textbook are the frequently-discussed topics in the English teaching field. Thenew textbook is a big challenge to us , that is , we have to teach English with the newtextbook as an approach rather than teach the new text book. As The newly-confirmedstandard of learning English goes , we are to cultivate the students into integratedpeople ,provide them not only with enough knowledge but the teaching and training ofthinking ,thus making them competitive in the international sense when they step out into thesociety ten or twenty years later. Meanwhile, in the practice of teaching , our traditionalthinking and teaching method can't be combined well with the new textbook and its standard,and we have to face the fact that English study has cost too much source but led to lowefficiency . I , thus , seek to start from my teaching practice, combine the advanced teachingidea of Whole Language and the new text book , and conduct a survey about the best way toteach the new textbooks.the thesis is composed of five parts:The first part describes the research background , the significance and the researchmethods.The second part introduces the background , conception and relative theoretical base ofWhole Language Approach.The third part points out the disadvantages produced by teaching the new text book withtraditional teaching method , and makes a comparison of the traditional and modern Englishlearning , tries to present the limitation of traditional way of teaching, lays the emphasis onthe suitability and feasibility of application of Whole language approach in English teachingin three steps of classes , that is warming up , reading and writing.The fourth part introduces my examples of experiments in details , and offers someadvice as well.The last part summarizes my thesis and presents the main argument and offers somesuggestions for Whole language Approach and for further study.
