With the rapid development of economic activity and multiple politics since the 21st century, English is becoming a universal language. The circumstances bring not only opportunities but also challenges to English curriculum reforms in the senior Stage of national elementary education, (i. e. senior secondary school) English Course Standard for Senior High School (hereinafter referred as the Standard) that State Ministry of Education published in August 2002 points out the orientation of English teaching for senior high school. Based on theoretical studies and practical exploration of senior English teaching in grade 1 and grade 2, the thesis presents rational thoughts and practical sum-up on how to realize the Standard. The thesis consists of four parts.Part I briefs the study theme and its origins, introducing the trends of European and American foreign language teaching reforms, the relationship between English curriculum reform and our country's economic construction as well as the actuality of senior English teaching in China.Party II describes the nature of senior English course and basic definitions of the Standard. After briefing the Standard, the thesis compares the Standard and Teaching Program of Senior High School (hereinafter referred as the Program) in detail. It also describes the breakthrough of the Standard over the Program.Part III discusses the implementation of senior English teaching following the concepts of new curriculum, which is a key point in this thesis. Comprehensively reviewing the practice of senior English teaching, it initiates rational thinking on the new objects and new requirements of the Standard and raises the following suggestion: (I) Employ the concepts of new courses to guide class teaching;(II) Concern the sentiment of students, boost total development of students;(III) Frequent the directions of study strategy, train students' self study ability;(IV) Promote cultural consciousness, realize trans-cultural communication;(V) Adjust evaluation methods.Part IV expounds that teacher is the key factor to realize the Standard. It points out that with lifelong study becoming a worldwide trend, teachers should keep improving themselves, pulse the change in role of teachers and teaching activities and keep in mind "Students are subjects of teaching activities".
