| With economic globalization and knowledge explosion, English becomes one of the basic skills for the learners to adapt themselves to the society, as well as one of the basic requirements for the development of their skills today. For the students in schools, English is also important. Nowadays, our country is facing a great opportunity and challenge, and improving in an astonishing speed. However, as she has a gigantic territory, the differences of economic developing level are inevitable. In order to achieve a balanced development and harmonious society, supporting the development of western region (especially the Tibet) of our country is very important, and this should be based on the improvement of the people's education level at that area. With these requirements, many "Tibetan schools" and "Tibetan classes" are established in the eastern and middle areas of our country to cultivate the Tibetan students and give them the same education as the local students. English is one of the most important courses for the Tibetan students to learn.However, the English teaching in Tibetan class is facing problems. The causes are various. The English level of the Tibetan students is much lower than that of the inland students. They are lacking in the subjective activity in learning a foreign language. And there are also some objective factors.This thesis begins with a survey of the related works of the minority education problem as well as English education. Then, it concentrates on discussing the English teaching problems based on experience as a teacher in a Tibetan school. First, the characteristics of the Tibetan students were analyzed in detail, which lead to a negative effect to their study. Second, the author lists a series of problems which are as follows: The students have a poor level in basic English;Many students are lack of motivation for learning a foreign language;They don't like showing themselves off in language learning;They are poor in English listening, speaking, reading and writing. According to the author's analysis, there are several causes for the problems: The education in Tibet is restricted by the economy and environment there;The English education for Tibetan students is not only a matter of bilingual learning, but also a trilingual one.The thesis also classifies the problems into the subjective ones and the objective ones. The methods which have been used to solve these problems were discussed, and the corresponding effectiveness were also presented and analyzed. It supplies some suggestions to arouse the interests of the students and motivate them in English learning. And it also discusses the ways to promote the teaching level of vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading and writing. In the end, this thesis comes to a conclusion: The education of English should fit for the students so as to make it effective. |
