Actualities Analysis And Countermeasures Investigation Of Bilingual Education In Chinese Universities And Colleges

With the arrival of 21st century, which is an age of knowledge, economy and information, China enters into WTO, thus the international exchange and cooperation become more and more frequent, and competition is fierce too. Chinese higher education is confronted with more challenges;the students who have both professional knowledge and skilled English are popular. Bilingual education is a kind of teaching method using two languages in some proportion in order to facilitate learning by students who have a native proficiency in one language and are acquiring proficiency in the other. Therefore it involves in many concerns, and in order to meet the needs, many universities and colleges take the first step in performing bilingual education. However, it is a complicated project involving teaching contents, teaching modes, course setting, teachers training, teaching materials, teaching management and teaching evaluation, the results have not been achieved as expected.The thesis begins with an introduction of domestic and foreign bilingual education;explains the basic theories of bilingual education, including the concepts, the types and the modes;explores the foundation of bilingual education from the view of linguistics and psychology. Then analyses the actualities of bilingual education in Chinese universities and colleges by investigating the practice in Dalian University of Technology and probing scientific and technical literature, sums up the existing problems of bilingual education. Finally discusses the countermeasures, attempting to solve the problems by analyzing the findings from the investigation in bilingual education.
