Elementary education is one of the important areas ofimplementation of ESD, the development by times and the blazes of new trails of itscurriculum are imperative. Nowadays, we are vigorously implementing new reform of thecurriculum. Under the chance, to analyze and to draw on the experience of other countries isone of effective channels of improving and perfecting the ESD in the curriculum ofelementary education in China.The article comprises four parts. The first part firstly sorts out and clarifies the conceptand basis of theory of "Sustainable Development" and ESD, it also discusses and expoundsthat education plays the important role in the implementing strategy of sustainabledevelopment in China. The second part compares the present situation of the ESD of the fourareas in the world according to analysis of the texts, concisely lists the theories, the measures,and the progression of the ESD implementation of the major countries, and sums up theenlightening guidance. The third part details the present situation of the ESD implementationin curriculum texts of elementary education from subject curriculum and integratedcurriculum, in Australia, Canada, America, and England. After that, it analyzes theembodiment of curriculum and instructional objectives of ESD in ofEngland. The fourth part sums up the enlightening guidance of the research, and make thesuggestions for the ESD in curriculum of elementary education of our country synthetically.The suggestions includes that each subject should thoroughly play its role in ESD, the ideas ofsustainable development should be added to the goals of education, curriculum andinstructional objectives should emphasize participation and learning through practice,curriculum contents should give prominence to suitability and localization, sustainabledevelopment should run through the whole teacher education.
