EQ, short for Emotional Quotient (also known as Emotional Intelligence), as distinguished from IQ, is a psychological term created over a decade ago. It is defined as one's ability to control his / her emotion, bear psychological pressure and balance his/her psychology. Scientific findings have proved that EQ have played an important role in personal achievements.China's long history of exam-oriented education, thus improperly far more attention to students' IQ than their EQ has led to increasingly fierce competition among students for good academic performance and as a result, many psychological problems among them. An increasing number of them are susceptible, unsociable, selfish, cold, dishonest and loose in morality. Suicide and crime and other extreme actions are as well found among a few of them. A worrisome psychology of Chinese junior-middle -school students, indeed.To make China as a developing country competitive in the 21st century, an era of knowledge economy, it must have citizens of good quality, as is described by the UNESCO in terms of the Ability to Learn, Ability to Live and Ability to Co-operate as the three standards for future people. In fact, the ability to live and the ability to co-operate make part of EQ. For all above, it's both worthwhile and urgent that teachers work on the development of students' EQ.This thesis, written from the class master's point of view, deals with matters on development of the EQ of junior-middle-school students from Changde. It consists of three chapters, as is shown below.Chapter One Definition of EQ and Development of EQ.Chapter Two Survey of the EQ of Junior-middle-school Students from Changde.Chapter Three Approaches available to Junior-middle-school Class Masters to developing students' EQ (Dealt with are also Characteristics of Junior-middle-school Studnts' physical and psychological development and principles of EQ Nurturing).
