On The Contradiction Between Academic Freedom And Social Interference

This paper affirms the positive role of social interference directly. The loss of academic freedom is not because of the existence of social interference, but mainly attributes the universities and the scholars themselves. Thus, the recovering of academic freedom is not only to the society, but to the universities themselves more. The paper is primarily based on it, and states how the universities to deal with the contradiction between academic freedom and social interference for the reality that the universities cannot escape the social interference.This article contains five chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the basic intention, research methods and the meaning of the article.Chapter Ⅱ describes the content and important of academic freedom. Academic freedom is the source of the creation of the Universities. It is necessary for the Universities to pursue advanced knowledge. It is the essence of the Universities. It is the most excellent traditional ethos.Chapter Ⅲ expounds what is social interference and its main manifestations. Also it discusses how the social interference infers to academic freedom.Chapter Ⅳ analyses the reason that the inevitable contradictions between academic freedom and social interference. On the one hand, the contradictions between academic freedom and social interference accompanies by the entire history of the development process of the academic freedom. On the other hand, the contradictions between "valuefreedom" and "value judgment" enable the universities to the dilemma.Chapter Vis the main part. It mainly discussed how to deal with the contradictions. Faced with the contradiction between academic freedom and social interference, first of all, the universities must hold to its fundamental faith—academic freedom. System security, as well as the efforts of the scholars and the president is the key to uphold academic freedom. Secondly, on this basis, the universities can accept social interference initiatively and selectively. The universities should give priority to their own interests;establish a healthy idea on the social services. And more importantly, the universities should grasp the "degrees" of social interference firmly in the process of accepting social interference.
