| American higher education began with Harvard College in 1639. There were nine colonial colleges in North American before the American Revolution. The founders of the colonial colleges intended to bring up educated clergies in colonies.In the first chapter of this paper , the author introduces the building, developing of these colonial colleges in 1770s. In the second chapter, the author analyses the features of the colonial colleges. The religionary aim to build the colleges in colonies is the most important aim. So the religionary feature is one of the features of the colonial colleges. In the other hand, the colonial colleges cultivated many common leaders, so the colonial colleges had the society feature. In the third chapter, the author studies the influence of the colonial colleges. The colonial colleges provided most leaders of the American Revolution. They devoted themselves to the American Revolution. |
