With the rapid development of science and technology in the modern society, the economic globalization is unavoidable and the cultural communication is getting more and more frequent. English, as an important tool, is playing a more and more significant role. At the present, the foreign language acquisition is mainly by classroom. So the quality of teaching is very important. Since the 1970s researches and theories in foreign language teaching and learning have shifted their attention to investigating the processes of learning. Researches on the methods of teaching emphasize the input of knowledge and neglect the process of learners' autonomous learning. Researches on the process of learning stress the action of learners, but ignore teacher roles in classrooms.Researchers at home and abroad have studied teacher roles in teaching, but there are four emphases and four neglects in traditional teacher roles. Since the reform of basic educational curriculum, teacher roles have changed a lot under the circumstance of carrying out the National Curriculum Standard. Modern teacher roles have a variety of artistic styles. The forth chapter is about what roles English teachers should have in New Curriculum. The determination of the objective of English curriculum makes it the starting point to develop students and try to reflect the theory of quality education, and the substance is to train the ability of students in language practice and the kind of teaching and learning to be used is of assignment in order to carry out the training of students' synthetic ability to use language in the course of education, and The National Curriculum Standard emphasize the development and the use of curriculum materials. So in carrying out the new curriculum, English teachers should have a variety of roles: designer of educational course;---; reflective educator of educational course, researcher of educational science. But the shifting of teacher roles hasn't been generally realized by teachers. Although it has a little bit been studied in theory, in practice many teachers are still taking the old way, that is 'Teachers are speaking all the time in the whole class."As for this, in the fifth chapter, the writer talks about the solution: Teachers musttake into account the importance of their professional self-development. Constructivism, humanism and social interactionism will provide foundations for the cultivation of teachers' awareness of self-development. In practice, teachers should set up the awareness of teachers' professional self-development, reflect teacher roles under National Curriculum Standard, and become reflective practitioners, who view the classroom as a battle of exploring and seeking the truth, so as to improve teachers' professional self-development.In brief, teachers, like learners, in the process of lifespan learning, are also actively constructing their knowledge. Through reflecting teacher roles, shifting teacher roles, in the practice of reflective teaching, English teachers cannot only promote their professional self-development, but also learn to design appropriate classroom activities to reach the aim of sublimating one's own teacher roles.
