| The new syllabus has been issued and carried out. It has a great promotion on English education and English language teaching. The new syllabus indicates that the curriculum contents and the teaching modes should be considered mostly by language teachers. These years, the English language teaching has had a great promotion. However, the current educational situation in China cannot meet the need of the development of economy and society. There is a great gap between them. This requires language teachers to research on the curriculum contents, make sure that in the classroom teaching, they not only teach language knowledge but also teach the learning strategies, form feelings and attitudes, help the students have the cultural awareness. The language teachers should also be aware that which teaching modes are the most effective and can reflect the principle of "learner-centered" in the classroom teaching.According to the social constructivist theory, language teachers should emphasize learners' active role and allow them to form meaningful responses. As mediators, teachers are supposed to help learners learn the language knowledge, language skills, facilitate them in grasping learning strategies and construct the self confidence and determination, help the students be aware of the cultural differences between the east and the west. In this paper, it discusses what curriculum contents teachers should choose and what teaching modes should teachers adopt in the learner-centered middle school classrooms. |
