This thesis intends to examine the problems that affect English language learning through analyzing some researches on the current senior school English teaching and learning. The purpose is to propose solution to these questions.Findings provide evidence that there are two problems in senior English learning: (1) senior school teachers pay less attention to the instruction of learning methods to the students. (2) Students are lack of effective learning strategies, especially metacognitive strategies and loose control in classrooms. In an attempt to remedy the problems, metacognitive strategy training is used in senior English classroom to promote students effective learning strategies. Also, Training steps are also provided in this paper.According to the author, metacognitive strategy training is both a necessary and effective way to the current problems in senior middle school English teaching and learning. It is the base or the premise of effective using learning methods, as well as the cure of learning strategies. The theory of metacognition emphasizes self-identifying, planning, setting goals, evaluating and adjusting the effect of the consciousness. The metacognitive training to students can hence develop learner autonomy in English acquisition. It can correct students' false ideas and learning strategies, curb blindness in action, build self-esteem, arouse interests, etc. Also metacognitive strategy training is integral to every stage of the whole teaching procedure.
