How To Train English Learning Strategies For Senior Middle School Students

It is stipulated in "New Criteria for English Curriculum" that one of goals of English course is to make students form effective learning strategies. Therefore, it is greatly significant to emphasize study on language learning strategies and strategy training. On the one hand, it can enhance learning efficiency of students. On the other hand, it can promote teaching and achieve the purpose of reducing students' learning burdens by strategy instruction.First of all, the thesis presents investigation on learning strategies used by students from Jinzhou Taihe Senior Middle School and Jinzhou No.2 Senior Middle School. Results show that their strategy use frequency is not very high on the whole and that, especially metacognitive strategies, they are in the least frequent use among three basic categories (metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies and social/affective strategies). Hence, it is extremely necessary to make strategy training for senior middle school students. Moreover, following cognitive theoretical framework, the thesis discusses necessities, goals, design models and procedures, contents and affecting factors of strategy training. Finally, it is pointed out that it is better to integrate strategy training with daily teaching considering characteristics of senior middle school students and that applications of strategy training in daily teaching have been explored.The thesis consists of five chapters:Chapter I is an introduction, which gives a brief account of research backgroundand the value and significance of the present research. It also gives a very short description on the literatures published in the field of strategy training. In the end, it provides research methodChapter II mainly presents the investigation on strategies used by senior middle school students and discussion.Chapter III discusses necessities, theoretical basis, goals, design models and procedures, contents and affecting factors of strategy training.Chapter IV provides a detailed description on applications of strategy training in daily teaching.Chapter V summarizes the present research and gives constructive advice for the future research in this field.
