Since 1984, the reform of household registration of the towns has been playing an important role in breaking through the rural-urban dual structure .Under the new circumstance for building the harmonized society and for taking the advantage of the reform of household registration of the towns, it is more important to explore the working mechanism of the towns in the course of the harmonized development of the rural and the urban.Directed by the scientific development view and the method of the population geography, the thesis based on the analysis to the data of the population census of China and investigation on the spot is mainly to illustrate the position of the towns in harmonized development of the rural and the urban and how to rebuild the mechanism of the towns based on the analysis for what the urbanization and the reform of household registration of the towns have encountered.There are six chapters in the thesis:Chapter I . IntroductionIn this part, the thesis introduces why to choose this topic, and has a retrospect and comment on the relevant theories, giving a brief statement on the conceptions and index of the thesis. Based on above-mentioned, the thesis builds up the framework of the theory analysis, defines the research contents and methods.Chapter II . The course of the reform of household registration of the townsBased on the analysis to three phases of the reform of household registration of the towns since the reform and open in China, the thesis is to reflect the change of the reform of household registration of the towns and the characteristics of the urbanization.Chapter III. The situation of the urbanization under the new circumstance of the reform of household registration of the townsBased on the static analysis of the census and the investigation on the spot, the thesis is to reflect the situation in the course of the urbanization how the population of the towns have increased and how the peasant migration is.Chapter IV. The prominent issues of the urbanization under new circumstanceThe thesis mainly discusses the issues such as the attraction of the town and its hukou, the rural-urban dual structure and the peasants' profit encountered by urbanization and others mechanism reforms companied with the reform of household registration of the towns.Chapter V. The synthetic reform of the towns for the next stage of urbanizationCombining the theory with the practice, the thesis finds some key aspects concerned with the rural-urban harmonized development under the new circumstance of the reform of household registration of the towns.Chapter VI. Conclusions and RevelationsMain conclusions of the thesis are as fellows:1. The promotion to the reform of household registration of the towns takes little effect on the rural-town migration.Though the reform of household registration of the towns launched on the later1990s is promoted greater than that on the 1980s, the peasants' wishes of the migration are lower than the expected. The analysis of the census data shows that the increases of population of the city and the town tend to be quickened, however comparing to the rural-city migration, the rural-town migration is obviously weaken with non-hukou migration dominated. Though there is an obvious regional difference on the rural-urban migration, and the rural population of undeveloped region tends to migrate while the percent of non-hukou migration in the inter-provinces rural-town migration is higher than that in the inner-provinces, local reform of household registration of the towns is mainly for the local peasants. And the investigation on the spot shows that most peasants having gotten the town' hukou have been lived in the towns for years and care more about work and their children' education while the social security problems is paid much more attention by the peasants having gotten the towns' hukou.2.
