Objective: To study the effect of swimming and its combination with Levo-carnitine on serum leptin, HDL-C, TC and TG in diet-induced hypercholesteremia rats. Methods: Male ICR rats(aged 4 weeks) were divided into 9 groups: Normal group fed with normal diet; HiFAT group fed with hyperlipidic diet; HiF+Lc(A) group fed with hyperlipidic diet and L-carnitine(50mg/kg/d); HiF+Lc(B) group fed with hyperlipidic diet and L-carnitine(100mg/kg/d); HiF+Lc(C) group fed with hyperlipidic diet and L-carnitine(300mg/kg/d); HiF+Ex group(swimming 90min/d, 5d/wk) fed with hyperlipidic diet;HiF+Ex+Lc(A)(swimming 90min/d, 5d/wk) group fed with hyperlipidic diet and L-carnitine(50mg/kg/d); HiF+Ex+Lc(B)(swimming 90min/d, 5d/wk) group fed with hyperlipidic diet and L-carnitine(100mg/kg/d) ; HiF+Ex+Lc(C) (swimming 90min/d, 5d/wk) group fed with hyperlipidic diet and L-carnitine(300mg/kg/d); After 8 weeks of treatment, the animals were killed 24h after the last exercise session. Results: (1)The model of hypercholesteremia rats was set up. The bodyweight of HiFAT group was higher than Normal group. (2)No difference was noted between L-carnitine supplementation groups and HiFAT group in bodyweight, epididymal fat pad weight and serum TC, TG, HDL-c. But HiF+Lc(A) group andHiF+Lc(B) group had a significant effect in the level of leptin. (3)90-minutes swimming can reduce the bodyweight, epididymal fat pad weight and improve serum HDL-c, leptin. (4)90-minutes swimming and its combination with the highest dose of Levo-carnitine can improve the rats' bodyweight, epididymal fat pad weight and serum leptin, HDL-c.Conclusions: The medium-sized intensity exercise can reduce the serum leptin and cause a series of beneficial biochemistry change; The lower and medium doses of L-carnitine can fall the level of serum leptin. But the highest dose of L-carnitine hasn' t this effect, so its mechanism need be probed in; The medium-sized intensity exercise and its combination with the highest dose of Levo-carnitine can attain better effect of weight loss and and cause a series of beneficial biochemistry change; Thisstudy showed that the extra supplementation of L-carnitine isn' t necessary to normal human in normal circumstance and it is significative to supplement L-carnitine in course of The medium-sized intensity exercise.
