Moral education of the high school students is faced with more severe environment and challenge due to the establishment of socialist market economy. If schools carry out moral education without taking the economic change into consideration, then the education will inevitably stray away from the reality and lose vigor. There are aboutSOmillion high school students in China. Their ideological and moral as well as education levels are not only manifestations of civilization of the current society but also decisive factors to the future social and spiritual outlook of the country as well as the establishment of a comparatively well-off society. These are necessary issues for schools to face and address: what moralities should we foster in the high school students' moral education, and how? These issues are both theoretically and practically significant to fully carrying out quality education and fostering students' complete and good morality and personality.The paper examines the present high school students' moral features via literatures, observation, activity and works analysis, and investigation. On this basis, it explores the value orientation, main contents and requirements of high school students' moral education in the context of socialist market economy in accordance with the modern theor ies of moral education and Marxism theories on human development as those on cognitive development, humanism and social learning. Lt attempts to develop into an application research paper integrating theory with practice.The paper argues that the ideological and moral mainstream of the modern high school students is optimistic and healthy on one hand andthere are also worrying elements on the other.The socialist market economy exerts both positive and negative influences on the high school students' moral education. They should meet and surpass the moral requirements of the socialist market economy. Therefore, economic moral education should be strengthened, creativity and teamwork spirit be fostered , and collectivism education and socialist humanism education integrated. The high school students' moral education should give prominence to the students who are subjects of the education, and adhere to integration of direction and practicality so as to form a reasonable morality structure of students, meeting the requirements of the socialist market economy and promoting the traditional virtues of our nation at the same time...
