With the further development of secondary educational reform, cooperative learning of English in high schools has become one of the important ways to improve the general competences of high school students. This paper mainly adopts documental method, comparative method, inductive method and citing method. It first traces back to the historical origins of cooperative learning in and out of China, compares the new teaching modes with the old ones and reveals the background and the importance of carrying out cooperative learning of English in high schools. It expounds the theoretic base, the essential factors, the main learning methods and ways of organization and execution. At last, it analyses the principles and characteristics of appraising cooperative learning of English in high schools and points out some problems that should be paid attention to while appraising it.
