Academic motivation and self-concept are most important terms in Educational Psychology. Academic motivation, the impetus of the students' study, which is the core of the process of study, promotes the students' study. Self-concept is the perception of oneself formed in the course of the comprehension of one's own experience. In other words, self-concept is the consciousness of oneself, which arises from the experience of the mutual communication, attribute of oneself and the experience of the social environment.Self-concept is center of character. Academic motivation and self-concept are the heated issues in pedagogy and psychology, but most scholars are just concerned with the students from universities, high schools and elementary schools, ignoring the students in secondary vocational schools.This thesis probes the academic motivation and self-concept of the advanced vocational students and high students. After a questionnaire to 174 and 37 advanced vocational students from Hu Bei Hygiene School and Nurse School attached to Wu Han University and 99 common high students from Huang Shi experimental high school, conclusion were drawn as follows:1. There is a high positive interrelation between the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in advanced vocational students;2. There is a gap between the advanced vocational students and common high students in the field of the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and the self-concept;3. The self-concept of the advanced vocational students, especially cognitive self-concept has positive correlation with intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, The self-concept correlates with the intrinsic motivation is higher than with extrinsic motivation.4. There is no obvious interrelation between the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in high school students;5. The self-concept has a great effect on the intrinsic motivation to high schoolstudents.
