Nowadays, the inquiry learning has already become the hotspot of the updated curriculum innovation. As one of the composing parts of the basic educational reforming system which is featured with the Chinese characteristic, the inquiry learning helps the students obtain direct experience; foster the scientific spirit and attitude; master the basic scientific method and improve the competence of solving the practical problems through exercising the knowledge synthetically by the students'own practice. The implement being performed in primary and secondary schools highly promoted the Quality Education which emphasizes the cultivation of the students' creative spirit and practicing competence, thus aroused the strong backwash not only in the field of education but in the whole society. At the same time, the implement of the project learning has also put forward a series of problems which need consideration both in educational theory and in its practice.The updated curriculum innovation puts emphasis on the students' all-round development and lifelong development. For English teaching, the teachers must switch traditional ideas of " the subject-center-only" and "the knowledge-center-only", enabling students to have awareness of touch other relevant subjects and knowledge. We teachers should also try to arouse their interest in English and strengthen their ability to use target language in real communication. Meanwhile, through English study, develop their ability to search and deal with information. Then how to fulfill these training goals has become the most important thing in language teaching.Under such kind of background, the writher of the thesis studied a lot. about Education Theory, Updated Curriculum Theory, Language Teaching Theory and some other relevant theories. With the aid of philology analysis method and the empirical studies, the writer combined the inquiry learning fashion with English teaching practice and pointed out creatively thatinternet function can be fully used to support inquiry learning in English subject.The main body of this thesis consists of the following three parts:Firstly, exposition of the theoretical basis of inquiry learning and its development. The inquiry learning practice has been under a series of change and is being perfected. The present inquiry learning aims at switching students' studying method, and then promote the development of individuality of every one of them. Also in this part, the writer analyzed the significance and feasibility of combining inquiry learning and English classroom teaching.Secondly, empirical studies. The writer summarized a series of effective practice scheme through a whole year's high school teaching experience, which guarantees that English inquiry learning in the situation of internet can be operated in a scientific and systematic order. This is the writer's own practical conclusion. Also, in this part, the writer put forward the idea of supervising the practice by the strong function of internet, such as making full use of encyclopedical resources on internet, fulfilling information exchange on the "internet platform", and directing the practice with the theory of WebQuest. And at last, the writer presented a specific case study of English inquiry learning to reinforce her idea.Thirdly, analysis and discussion. In this part, the writer gave a concrete description of the teachers' roles through the procedure of English inquiry learning in the situation of internet. Besides, the writer pointed out some problems existing in the project practice, hoping to place a premium on the other craft brothers' resonance and discussion.
