The thesis attempts to inquire the relationship between knowledge and wisdom so as to convey an educational belief, that is, the essence of higher education is to transfer knowledge into wisdom. The author believes that the real mission of higher education is to develop students' wisdom by passing knowledge. A well-educated man should be a person who could transfer knowledge into wisdom rather than a person who is simply good at learning books. A well-educated man should have the following characteristics: intelligent, wise, free, and kind. Education is the art that enables the wisdom growth in a man by passing knowledge.The thesis falls into three parts:Part one: The real misson of higher education is to students' wisdom by passing knowledge. The author discusses the meaning of knowledge, the meaning of wisdom and the relationship between knowledge and wisdom from aspects of philosophy, psychology, education. The author argues that higher education is not only the tool of competition, but also the tool which can takes care of people's psyche.Part two: This part examines the relationship patterns of knowledge and wisdom in different stages of higher education. The author finds the loss of the wisdom value in the contemporary higher education and discusses the causes of the loss.Part three: This part explores how to develop students'wisdom by passing knowledge. The author suggests developing students' wisdom by the changing of the view of knowledge, the advocating of humanity education, the building of educational dialogue environment and the improving of teachers' quality.
