The overseas study of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) began to flourish in the 1960s-1970s. It has experienced the change from the SLA teaching to the SLA learning and now attaches great importance to the process of acquisition and learning. For example, nowadays the SLA researchers have carefully examined the differences between the acquisition in classroom and in natural environment, and probed into the characteristics and roles of different acquisition surroundings. Many western scholars, including Stephen K. Krashen, Rod Ellis, Diane Larsen Freeman, Michael H, Long and Wolfgang Clein, have come to various valuable conclusions after cautiously studying the concepts and types, and process of the SLA acquisition as well as the relations between the SLA acquisition and SLA learning. These research findings are of great importance to our foreign language teaching. This thesis aims to apply these SLA theories to China's foreign language teaching with an attempt to find an efficient way to solve the problem of lower efficiency in China's foreign language teaching. It suggests that great efforts should be made to establish a favorable SLA environment to achieve the goal.A survey of the SLA situation in Nanyang Agricultural Secondary Technical School and Nanyang Industrial Secondary Technical School shows that the SLA in present China's secondary- technical schools is still of traditional teacher-centered type and the SLA environment for Chinese students of the secondary technical schools is far from satisfactory. Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish favorable SLA environment both in and out of class to improve the SLA in China's secondary technical schools. The author of this thesis, through conscientious experiments and careful examination and analysis of the results, works out an efficient way to solve the problem of low efficiency in foreign language acquisition. The author asserts that it is important and necessary to improve the environment for the foreign language acquisition in the secondary technical schools. He also suggests that a systematic project of creating the SLA environment be carried out to realize a favorable SLA environment for the whole society, making it possible to set up bilingual families, schools, and offices. Providing such goals are achieved, itwould be of great significance for the improvement of the foreign language proficiency of the whole people and the development of the whole nation.
