To value students' self-development is the core of quality education and the demand of the time as well. Constructivism is an important guideline for students' self-development. Inquiry learning in biology encourages open and democratic learning ideas through various activities and takes learning process as a process of self-understanding, self-experiencing and self-structuring. Thus it's an effective way to fulfill the requirements of quality education in biology teaching. Through a careful investigation on the lack of students' self-development, the thesis provides the theoretical bases and practical ways to promote students' self-development in biology teaching in junior schools. The notable result of the teaching practice in biology proves its feasibility.
