The development of physics affects the education deeply. It decides the choice of the content of teaching materials. With the development of physics, the content is more substantial and the content which does not conform to the times will be discarded. Hence the teaching materials of physics will be timely to a certain degree.There are three educational reforms in 20th century, the core of which is curriculum reform whose most important work is to compile teaching materials. So the educational reform occurring in different period is always concerned with the compilation of teaching materials. The state of our country, which experiences several social turbulences and changes after liberation, is quite special. Under the tide of world educational reforms, our educational reform has its own characteristics. It can be roughly divided into four stages. And teaching materials of atomic physics in every stage are marked by different feature.By comparing the basic framework and the choice of the content of these typical teaching materials of atomic physics, which have been using in our physics education for fifty years, one can find the similarities and the distinguishing features.Quantum physics, one of New Concept Physics which is geared to the needs of 21 century, is innovated to a great extent in terms of the framework and the choice of the content. It dose not follow the pattern used in traditional teaching materials which regards Bohr oldquantum theory and atomic spectrum as the thread, but resorts to quantum-mechanical conception and language. To modernize the content of teaching materials, it not only enhances the education of rudimentary knowledge, but also it takes in the important discoveries and achievements in the domain of physics and enriches itself with the interaction and infiltration between physics and other disciplines. In addition, the author pays close attention to the humanism, as is showed everywhere in this teaching material. Science and technology bring benefits to mankind, whereas they also bring questions beyond prediction or even catastrophe. Therefore the humanism is needed to guide and determine the orientation of the social development in future. It is a challenge for me to comb the evolution and prospect the development of the frame and the content of teaching materials of atomic physics, because there is not any achievement in these researches.The curriculum reforms in the new century represent the trend of humanistic curriculum, the trend of modernized and globalized curriculum content, the trend of enhancing ethical and humanistic education, the trend of comprehensive curriculum, and the trend of combining the curriculum with the modern information technology, which will inevitably have an effect on the compilation of teaching materials of future disciplines. The trend of discipline development will be reflected in teaching materials.
