The higher education in China is taking on a trend of marketing, competition, and globalization in the conversion from elitism to popularization. Whether graduates, the special products cultivated in college, can be accepted by society and companies, namely successfully employed, depends on their employment competence in job market competition. Employment competence refers to the ability to defeat competitors in job market, find suitable working positions to develop their talents and realize personal values, namely, the ability to meet the brain demand of the society and companies. To launch an employment competence research for college students is beneficial to mould students'character, develop their comprehensive qualities, and raise employment competence, and also it will provide practical value of reference in policy making for education reform departments and government organizations. Employment competence consists of basis competition, core competition, and environmental competition. Basis competition includes body and mind quality, literate ability, communicative ability, practical performing ability, and so on. Core ability includes scientific and cultural quality, professional skills, learning ability, and innovation. Environmental ability includes the background of school, family, and society. The probe into companies and graduates reveals that current students have weak basis competition, lack core competition and face greater pressure in environmental competition. The following are the significant reasons derived from analyzing the three sectors of school, individual, and society:the talent cultivation models carried out by the institutions of higher learning fail to meet the needs of the job market, the imbalance of the school conditions renders the employment competition polarized, the individual students do not own the right academic and career planning, nor do they own proper employment perspectives, the society at large is in shortage of talents but the structural imbalance between the demand and supply exists sharply. In order to uplift students'employment competence, schools should reform brain cultivation models, improve their hardware and software, and highlight the characteristics of talent cultivation. College students should acquire self-cognition ability, make suitable academic and career plans, and implement them scientifically in practice. Students should also change perspectives on employment, enhance sense of initiative and competition. The government should offer best policy to create equal, fair and excellent employment environment.
