Reading is one of the most important approaches to obtain information in the 21st century information age, which plays a more and more crucial role in our daily life. According to"English Teaching Curriculum for High School Students", high school courses should lay emphasis on improving students'abilities to acquire knowledge, process information, analyze and solve problems. Therefore, teaching reading has become the key to English teaching in high schools. Meanwhile, the new Curriculum advocates the application of Task-based Teaching Model to English teaching. Task-based Teaching Model provides students with lots of opportunities to use English, which is beneficial to students to use language naturally and cultivates students'comprehensive capabilities. The author applied Task-based Teaching Model to English reading teaching in private high schools and tried to draw a conclusion that applying Task-based Teaching Model to English reading teaching helps to focus on students'learning, arouse students'interests in reading actively and effectively and improve students'reading abilities, which is much better than traditional teaching approaches.Contrasting with the reading requirements of the Curriculum, the author analyzes the gap between the reading levels of the students in private high schools with the requirements set up by the government. The paper starts with the research background, definition and principles of Task-based Teaching Model and researches the relationships between reading and Task-based Teaching Model. The author discusses the necessity and importance of applying Task-based Teaching Model to English reading teaching in private high schools. According to the surveys of how Task-based Teaching Model is used in private high schools, the author puts forward the suitable principles of task design. Finally,the author carries out the experiment in two parallel classes and finds that the Task-based Teaching Model proves to be useful and significant in practice.
