As the basic unit of language, vocabulary is a significant factor in language learning. In the process of vocabulary learning, the learners'application of vocabulary learning strategies is closely related to their efficiency and achievement of vocabulary learning. With regard to the research subjects, domestic and foreign scholars mainly focus on graduate and undergraduate students to study the use. of vocabulary learning strategies, but they seldom take junior middle school students into consideration. And this study was conducted to study the application of English vocabulary learning strategies among junior middle school students.This study was made among 152 students in the seventh grade of Lulou Junior Middle School of Jiangsu Province. The paper was composed of four parts:Firstly, based on Schmitt's classification of vocabulary learning strategies, together with the actual application of English vocabulary learning strategies among junior middle school students in China, the author carries out a questionnaire of thirty-nine items to survey the students'general application of English vocabulary learning strategies. Secondly, according to local English textbook of Strarter (Oxford Version of Junior Middle School English Course book) of the seventh grade in Lulou town, the author selected some vocabulary from the glossary of the textbook, and designed a vocabulary test to study the relevance between the students'adoption of vocabulary learning strategies and their vocabulary test scores. Thirdly, on the basis of both the seventh graders'Mid-examination scores of the first semester in this school, and the statistical software package SPSS 13.0, the author managed to analyze the differences between the students of High-scoring Group and Low-scoring Group in applying the vocabulary learning strategies. Lastly, chose some items from above-mentioned questionnaire, the author a face-to-face interview of ten questions. And the study draw three conclusions:(1) In terms of overall application frequency of English vocabulary learning strategies, majority of the students most frequently used the cognitive strategies, which were successively followed by the memory strategies, determination strategies and social strategies, and the metacognitive strategies were the least applied strategies; (2) There was obvious and close correlation between the students' application of vocabulary learning strategies and their vocabulary scores; (3) The students of High-scoring Group and Low-scoring Group had distinct differences in their use of English vocabulary learning strategies.
