In China, both in primary school and junior high school, many specialists are going all out to compile students’textbooks. However, there still exist some drawbacks in textbooks. The author wants to make an analysis of the commonly-used textbooks in Jiangsu Province from grade one to grade nine in order to have an overall understanding of the textbook vocabulary from the perspectives of the total number of vocabulary in textbooks, the distribution of words, the re-occurrence rate of both the high frequency and the low frequency words. Besides, due to the current teaching condition, the author also tries to make a comparison between the old version and the new version of textbooks for grade three students and grade seven students in order to help teachers know the relationship between these two versions and better teach their students.With the help of Range, we can make such conclusions:1) the total number of textbook vocabulary is much more than it requires in the curriculum;2) the distribution of vocabulary in each grade is generally reasonable, except in some grades;3) some words do not have a high re-occurrence rate;4) the new version of textbooks in grade three and seven is better than the old one. Given the previous research, the thesis proposes the following suggestions:1) both students and teachers should change from teaching and learning single types only to teaching and learning word families;2) textbook compilers, if possible, should modify the distribution range of the textbook vocabulary;3) teachers and students should pay much attention to those high frequency words;4) teachers may create some specific textbooks or just vocabulary lists that are suitable for students and can meet their studying needs;5) teachers should form the balance between students’learning and assessment system.
