The students'physical and mental health is related to the concepts of "Health First", "People-oriented", "Harmony Psychology" and "Quality Education", as well as in-depth reform of higher education. It also concerns the process of university students' self-development and construction of a harmonious society in China. Doing physical exercise is benefit to people's physical and mental health, which has been one of the hottest issues of common concerns among sports researchers. This research examines university students'mental health and sports status by inviting 500 students from universities of Wuhan to take part in a survey and Physical test. The results show that:1. The overall situation of students'participation in the regular physical exercise is not optimistic. Only 13% of the participants do exercises frequently, of which the score of mental health is significantly higher than others.34% in this part of students keep long-term large amount of exercises, which also affects the score of both students' physical and mental health largely.2. The students'physical health score varies in demographics. First, the score of male students in physical health is lower than that of female students (P<0.05). Second, the professional P.E. students enjoy a higher score in physical health than general students, among which students in science scores higher than students in art subjects (P <0.01). However, there is no significant difference in the scores of different grade levels and sources of students.3. The students'mental health score also varies in demographics. For example, the score of male students in mental health is lower than that of female students (P<0.001). The professional P.E. students enjoy a significant higher score in mental health than general students, among which students in science scores higher than students in art subjects (P<0.05). Besides, the rural students scores much lower than urban students (P <0.01); and there is also a large difference in the scores between students in the different grades (P<0.01). The first year students have a relatively lower score. However, the score increased as they move on to the higher grades. On the contrary, the senior students'score is in the fall or plateau.4. The sports status is in direct proportion to students'physical and mental health. In addition to personality and body shape that have no significant difference, the physical health and its dimensions degree (physical appearance, body function, and physical quality) are in direct proportion to mental health and its dimensions degree (cognition, emotion, personality and adaptation) (P<0.05). Take students'physical health and mental health as dependent variables, while sports status as independent variables to do a regression analysis, sports status enters into regression equation and the regression coefficient is significant. Thus, it could be concluded that the students'physical and mental health can be predicted by their sports status.
