| Reading is an important aspect of language learning. Reading ability becomes the most important part of Reading Teaching. Many scholars have been concerned on it for a long time.Reading speed is an important aspect of reading ability, but there are not sufficient researches about reading speed of primary school students. It has not formed a completed theoretical framework yet, the researches about its related factors are not sufficient either.This paper is based on reading theories. It investigates the status of reading speed t of primary school students. It explores the related factors from both family situation and school education.In this paper, the reading speed of 126 students from three grades is investigated by group-test. It is also supplemented by questionnaires, containing the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. Understand the current status of primary school students'reading speed, and summarize the related factors: the basic knowledge of reading, reading style, the quantity of reading, reading methods, reading habits.Based on the field survey and analysis, We have reached the following conclusions.(1)The pass rate of primary school students'reading speed is relatively high, but the excellent rate is very low.(2) There are individual differences between grade and class on primary school students'reading speed.(3)Reading speed within a certain range is positively related to reading comprehension.(4)Reading style, the quantity of reading, reading methods, reading habits will have impacts on reading speed of primary school students. The paper analyzed the possible reasons of survey results. Finally, according to the conclusions, put forward some appropriate recommendations.Suggested that parents can enrich the collection of books at home, changing attitude on reading, give children a good reading atmosphere.Suggested that schools:(1)Balance the ratio of reading styles of texts.(2)Add reading language knowledge for primary school students.(3)Increase the quantity of students'reading, to guarantee the reading time of primary school students.(4)Teach students effective methods of reading. |
