This graduation thesis is made up of three parts:literature summary and introduction, the conclusion of the survey, and thoughts &advice. For a long time, the Chinese teaching has the tendency of valuing the reading and writing, not the listening or speaking, so the students'ability of speaking is not as good as what we think. The new curriculum standard has changed "listening and speaking" into "oral communication", laying stress on the importance of oral communication. The nine-year compulsory education curriculum standard points out that the following five parts are the same phase target:oral communication, identifying & writing Chinese characters, reading, writing and comprehensive study. The nine-year compulsory education (junior) and ordinary high school textbooks have also edited the contents of oral communication practice. We should pay more attention to whether the speaking ability of the high school students, especially for the students in rural areas, has improved or not. This graduation thesis has mainly based on the survey about the students in No.3 middle school of Huitong, Hunan and No.9 middle school students of Dongkou in Shaoyang,Hunan, who also belong to high school students in rural areas. At the same time, some No.37 middle school students of Changsha have also received the survey as a reference. This graduation thesis is aiming at checking the current situation of the speaking ability of high school students in rural areas, finding out the reason of resulting in this current situation and giving some useful advice on how the high school students in rural areas improve their speaking ability.The conclusion of the survey:The current situation of the speaking ability of the high school students in rural areas hasn't been improved, which includes the following aspects:1.The students are easy to be nervous, and their expression is not natural and their appearance is not in good taste.2. The students'Putonghua is not so good or fluent and they haven't clear enunciation.3. The students can't organize their language in time and their expression is not coherent or fluent.4. When the students are speaking, they often haven't the centre theme, even diverge the topic.5.The students like speaking some vulgar language and swearword, so they don't speak civilization.6. They are not responsible for their own speaking and they like gossip.All of these situations result from lots of aspects, including the students themselves, the teachers'teaching methods, the curriculum standard, the teaching materials and the evaluation methods etc. In my opinion, if we want to train and improve the speaking ability of the high school students in rural areas, we should work hard at the following four parts:1.Change our ideas, have correct understanding, and value it on thoughts.2. Carry on effective training, break through separately and work hard at practice.3. Constantly perfect the system of the curriculum standard and the arrangement of the textbooks.4. Perfect the evaluation mechanism on speaking ability and the way of reforming examination evaluation, such as we can have oral examination and writing a composition in Chinese exams and so on.
