Nowadays, under the background of globalization as well as opening and reforming, with the gradually perfection in terms of socialistic marketing economical system, social development together with quick changes, respects and satisfactory brought by it has endowed undergraduates with an intense innovation consciousness, which makes them resist and bored with old concepts, thoughts, traditions and values. The zeitgeist of contemporary undergraduates has been symbolized by self-actualization, revolution as well as innovation, human oriented principle, diversification in value estimation, and enhancement of consciousnesses of subject, participation, and personalities. In the meantime, with the approaching of information age, while we are enhancing economic as well as cultural communications with foreign countries, the invasion of western ideologies is in its elements, which makes a group of undergraduates lack the ability to integrate self-development and social needs when they are advocating egoism; even some of them sink into egomania without introspection, and lost their spiritual home while they are seeking for materials. Undergraduates, who are considered as the constructors of nation's future, are key elements to determine the nation's competitiveness in the future world. Ideological and political education, taken as the most essential approach to culture students'ideological understandings, needs an urgent research to find out how to meet challenges and seize opportunities to educate backbones for our nation in this new historical period.The author, taking"the research on ideological and political education for undergraduates"as a research topic, starting from innovation in ideological and political education for undergraduates, aims to provide some inspirations on increasing the effectiveness of the education through this research. Analyzing the time-background and premises of the educatiion, taking Marxism which advances with times as a guidance, and using scientific analyzing methods, this essay explores an innovation in terms of modes, contents and mechanisms of the education on the practice level with the purpose of making it be in accordance with the requirements of social development, reflect the epochal as well as effective characters and exert its function of cultivation as much as possible. In this essay, the author uses the methods of element comparison, system research and synthetical analysis, lays great importance on comparison between each factors of the education and finds out a resultant force by comparing Chinese and western education, systematically analyzing logical relations between each factors and relating them to a whole. To put it more concretely: on the basis of absorbing a large array of excellent researches done by other scholars, the author proposes following viewpoints: in the aspect of innovation in the education, all kinds of educational methods should be applied comprehensively for the purpose of making best use of the advantages and avoiding shortcomings of each method as much as possible, at the same time integrating these methods as a whole; in the aspect of the choice of educational content, more attention should be paid in cooperating the idea of permeation and recessive, and innovating more contents in accordance to the personalities of youth; in the aspect of the research in the mechanism of the education, the author devotes to exploring a harmonious, balance, and effective mechanism by using relevant system theories, that is, to build a integrative mechanism between family, school and society.
