Terminology is the essence of a subject. Students learn such terms not only to understand important scientific concepts and theorems, develop science reading and writing ability, but also to lay the foundation of biology study in depth.To learn a subject well,one should master the terms, articulate the terms of subject knowledge, and apply them to solving problems in reality flexibly. Thus, it is necessary to conduct research in terms of how to improve students'ability to express their scientific thoughts and ideas in technical terms in the teaching of biology.The number of the terms found in the Zhejiang Branch of current teaching material is up to several thousand, which will undoubtedly increase the difficulty in students' learning technical terms.In addition, the key terms in the textbooks are not conspicuous enough, so that students may have trouble in judging and choosing the accurate ones.Through the survey of the students and teachers,we find that high school students'ability to express in terms of biological disciplines is in bad want of improvement. The findings are as follows:confusion with terms, misusage of the terms, or broken terms created on their own.Students only know the term, but cannot apply them to the concept map properly. Many lose points in the national college entrance examination due to various reasons.One important reason is that they fail to understand the basic tenninology, concepts and principles properly or deep enough. Some may seem to have made sense but fail to express properly. Others are able to choose the correct ones but cannot express them in a correct way. Looking into the cases,we believe that the following factors contribute to the problems:the limitation of the teachers'knowledge,students'low awareness,the lack of the atmosphere in terms of teaching, learning methods and strategies, and inconsistencies of different versions of the expressions of the terms in different teaching materials and other subjects.And these are also proposed an important basis for teaching strategies.To this end, we carried out the research in the relevant teaching practice on the base of theory study, teaching material analysis and survey. We selected two parallel 2008 science classes in Rui'an High School,Zhejiang for the study and carried out a semester of experimental study. We use in teaching the following teaching strategies: stimulating interest strategy, process-focused strategy, repetition strategy, concept map strategies,error correction strategies and so on.The results show that:(a) more technical terms are invovled in Zhejiang Branch version of high school biology textbooks;(b) more improvement is needed in the capa-city to express in professional tenns;(c)the relevant training strategies in terms of how to improve the ability of the students'expression is applicable. Teaching strategi-es carried out, the students are more concerned about learning in the usual terminolog-y, and their professional awareness is raised, and the accuracy rate is raised as well.
