In the world today, with the development of the economy and education of globalization, cultural exchanges between nations are increasingly frequent. In the intercultural communication, we meet from time to time cultural shock, cultural barriers and cultural misunderstandings. How to achieve success in intercultural communication has raised great concern of the whole society and developing students' intercultural communicative competence has become the ultimate goal of foreign language teaching. However, due to various reasons, culture teaching of the target language is often ignored in middle schools, and students' intercultural competence is far not given training and poorly developed. For this situation, I did a research on the high school students'mastering of the English language and culture as well as their intercultural communicative competence. My purpose of doing the research is to see how well the high school students understand the English culture and the level of their intercultural communicative competence. Based on detailed analysis of the result, I try to provide some demonstrations and suggestions for enhancing the intercultural awareness of high school students and improving the intercultural communication skills of them.The introduction of the thesis mostly expounds the purpose, the significance, the target, the content and methods of the research. Partâ…¡mainly gives some definitions concerned and briefly combs through bibliometrical analysis of domestic and international publications on intercultural communication. The third part analyses the high school students' mastering of the English language and culture as well as their intercultural communicative competence through testing and interviewing. Part Four minutely dissects the factors that affect students'intercultural competence and finally puts forwards some helpful suggestions on how to improve cross-cultural education that are directed against the existing problems in it.There are also limitations in this paper. First, the research are not done among a larger range, which is comfined to my own school. Second, the analyses are not in an all-around way. Third, the tentative ideas of creating outside environment are too ideal. The writer will try to do deeper research in the future. |
