A Study Of The Function Of English Newspapers In The Improvement Of Junior High School Students' Writing Ability

It is difficult to effectively improve the students'ability of reading. English teachers develop students' reading ability mainly by reading English textbooks, but there is a lack of available reading materials. English newspapers are good reading materials, which can help students develop their reading ability and their ability to use the English language. We should therefore help students to master effective reading methods, acquire English knowledge, use the English language and raise students' interest by helping them to read English newspapers. So the introduction of newspapers into the classroom can help facilitate their learning though they cannot replace regular textbooks. English newspaper reading is just like building a bridge between students'learning and their real life.Based on Krashen's Input Hypothesis and the task-based teaching methodology, I do various ways to do the research. I carry out an experiment, a case study and a survey, to prove that students can improve their writing ability by reading newspapers. The experiment is successful.This paper focuses on how the teaching of English newspaper-reading can help enlarge students'reading vocabulary, and improve the students'writing ability. My study shows that it is an effective way to raise students'interest in reading, raise their motivation to participate in classroom activities, help teachers to provide effective feedbacks and guidance to students.
