Abstract/Summary:
In 1984, the self-taught examinations system was put into practice in Jiangxi province. Over the past two decades, the system has been developed rapidly in its offering Jiangxi people open, economical and convenient opportunities to study. However, owing to the changing educational environment and some internal issues, for a time, the development of the system experienced some fallbacks. Therefore, in the author's opinion, it's necessary to do some researches concerning the system to sustain its sound development. What's more, it's highly relevant to call to the attention of the educational circles, theoretical educational circles in particular, of the current situation of the system so that better theory and policy environment could be created for its development.In this research paper, by means of the literature analytic method, the author combs the development of the system since the examinations were first held, thus acquiring a clear idea of the current situation of the system as well as the solution to several existent problems in this system. The thesis is comprised of six parts, the first one being the introduction, in which firstly the issue is presented and reasons (to meet the challenges posed by the popularization of higher education and to satisfy the province's lack of talents cultivated in the institutions of higher education) why the system was suggested in the first place are investigated. Secondly, that the research is significant in that the suggestions and solutions to the existent problems in this system discovered in this research could contribute to the better and sounder development of the system is clarified. Lastly, a summary of research concerning the national and regional development of the system is made in this part as an attempt to have better knowledge of this issue in the whole. The second part is mainly devoted to the amplification of the relevant theoretical basis. Since theoretical basis is an important research tool, and given to the nature of self-taught higher education examinations, fundamentals about such concepts as the popularization of higher learning, lifelong learning, self-directed learning and the scientific outlook on development are cited as theoretical purport of the issue proper. The third part centers itself on the reasons why the system was suggested, together with its development over the past years, which is combed in the literature analytic method. The fourth part clarifies the current situation of the system. And through this clarification, problems confronting the system are pointed out. The fifth part, naturally, takes on these problems and works out the methods to solve them, which can be summarized as follows:to reinforce the promotion of self-taught higher education examinations to enhance their appealing to common people; to establish a self-service learning system; to make more efforts concerning the communication of the self-taught higher education system with other educational patterns, thus building a higher education interchange; to vigorously promote self-taught higher education examinations in rural areas; and to revolutionize the content and patterns of these examinations. The last part serves as a conclusion of the major ideas and insufficiencies of the research.
