With the development of new reform in curriculum,more high requirements are put on English teaching in senior high school, then how to improve teaching efficiency is an practical problem for all English teachers. Therefore, the writer has made an action research on how to improving teaching efficiency for rural graduating senior students. This research is under the instructions of the theories of education and psychology, based on the English teaching methodology and new English curriculum criteria. And after referring to the existing research results of many expert teachers and data of action research, the writer aiming at own rural graduating senior students and combining own research and study in teaching practice has made the action research and put forward concrete action strategies on how to efficiently motivate students, preview learn materials, make portfolio, teach vocabulary, do listening and analyze exercise, which are beneficial to both improving teaching efficiency and students'examination ability. Results of this research can be summarized as follows: Firstly, putting forward this study. Improving teaching efficiency is not only an aim but also a teaching practice; moreover, it is an action research, focusing on more action and practice than theory. So English teachers not only need to update own educational concept continuously, advance career quality, improve teaching skills but also make the best of the existing teaching practice combined with teaching problems to carry out action research positively to improve English teaching efficiency. Secondly, it is necessary and urgent to do the research for the English teaching of rural graduating senior students. According to graduating senior students'psychological characteristics and special teaching tasks,the writer has made much progress with students in the teaching practice through using advanced teaching plans and detailed teaching steps, which are also helpful to improve teaching efficiency and students'abilities. Thirdly, the standards which are used to evaluate the teaching efficiency should include two aspects, that is, to improve teacher's qualities as well as students'study efficiency. Through proper evaluation and teaching feedback, the teacher can advance teaching methodology and then to instruct students better, as a result, both teachers and students can receive further development.
