Group counseling is a psychology-based knowledge, theory and Educational practice. Through studying the impact of group counseling on the adaptability of college students and the function of group counseling in the Ideological and Political Education, the techniques and methods of group counseling can be used in the work of mental health education. It has great significance in innovating the Ideological and political education of college students and improving the overall quality of students.The paper focuses on college students'common problems of adaptability. According to the adjustment scale of Chinese college student, the adaptability is divided into seven aspects of interpersonal adaption, study adaption, career adjustment, emotional adjustment, satisfaction degree, self adjustment and campus life. It explains the concept of Group counseling and the characteristics of the college students'adaption, develops a targeted group counseling program, and studies the impact of group counseling on the Improvement of College Students adaption with experiments.The result shows that group counseling has positive affections on the adaptability of college students especially on the five aspects of the interpersonal adaption, study adaption, career adjustment, emotional adjustment and the satisfaction degree. The form and the environment of ideological and political education are coordinated. For group counseling to have better application in improving the college students'adaption, it is necessary to use group counseling more in the education of the freshmen, in the construction of student organizations, in the groups of particular students, and in the process of teaching college students.
