Based on the learning features of the farmers and the theories of instructional design, instructional message design, adult education, and instructional media and technology, the writer designs a computer knowledge ABC textbook the farmers. The textbook is tried out in the A village and the learners have 7 days to learn by themselves. Then there are tests for the learners to evaluate their knowledge about the computer ABC and operation skills, and there are questionnaire survey and interview with the farmers on the practicability, applicability and validity of the textbook. The formative evaluation results show that the textbook is easy to understand, learn and imitate, and has high practicability and applicability, but the results also show that the textbook has not much content and the contents order is not well designed. The writer revised the textbook according to the formative evaluation results and tried out it in the A village again. According to the interviews with the farmers after the try-out, the learners are more confident in the learning computer knowledge and also have strong interest in it.
