Hani is an ethnic minority group with a small population of approximately of 26,000. The recorded history of the Hani only goes back about 300 years. They have mainly inhabited the upper areas of the mountainous provinces in the northwest of Vietnam, including Lao Cai, Lai Chau, and Dien Bien. For a long time, the Hani people have been forgotten even in the ancient Vietnamese history. Recently, the Hani ethnic minority has been recognized by scholars, and national and international tourists for their traditional cultural festivals, traditional religion and worship, traditional housing structure, nature-oriented psychology, and their agricultural terracing practices.During the time that I conducted research on the Hani ethnic group in Lao Cai, I noticed that gender inequality is an issue in Hani society. This research focuses on gender equality issues in one typical Hani village by looking at the daily working tasks among male and female inhabitants, religion and traditional ritual worship and production activities. Then, some observations on gender inequality in the society of the Hani ethnic minority will be provided. This research has strong implications for the development of women in Hani society, since research on the topic of gender inequality of Vietnam's ethnic minority groups, particularly the Hani people, has not been systematically conducted.Women and social development are closely related. Therefore, research on women and gender inequality is necessary for providing accurate information, as well as a scientific foundation for implementing economic development projects and programs at the national level. By providing insights on gender relations and equality issues of the Hani ethnic minority group.
