The Research On Lenin's Ethnic Equality Thought

Lenin's ethnic equality thought formed during the revolution of Russia. It developed with the practice of socialist construction in Soviet Union. Lenin's ethnic equality thought is an important component of Lenin's theory of nationalism. Although ethnic equality is an old topic, the research on Lenin's ethnic equality thought was not equally deep. The research results were few. To this end, based on the collection of precious studies results, I have carefully read Lenin's theoretical work related ethnic. On the process of re-carding Lenin's thought, I put forward some own views.In my paper, I use three drafts of platform for clues which Lenin had drafted them from 1895 to 1919. I analyzed the process which Lenin's ethnic equality thought formed and developed. On the basis of analyzing, I summarized its main contents. I think the main contents of his thought include five facts. First, all nation is equal regardless of national size. Second, national self-determination is a basic requirement for the achievement of equality. Third, government should protect the equal rights of ethnic minorities with the law. Forth, the government should achieve equality with the federalism. Fifth, government should eradicate the inter-ethnic inequality really. Although in different historical periods, Lenin put forward different policies to achieve the ethnic equality, the main meaning which the thought run through is the same. It's that all nation is equal regardless of national size.After the death of Lenin, the leaders of the Party and the government did not adhere to the thought of Lenin's ethnic equality in Soviet Union. On the process of dealing with the ethnic issues, there are some mistakes and historical lessons. In a way, these mistakes are very important reason for disintegration of the Soviet Union. Summing up the historical lessons which I get form the errors, I think Lenin's ethnic equality thought is very important for our construction of the ethnic relation . We can use it to deal with our current ethnic issues. The thought provides us very valuable inspirations. First, we should strengthen the ethnic equality propaganda. Second, according to different historical conditions, we should choose different national policies to achieve ethnic equality. Third, we should strengthen the national legal system in the ethnic minority areas, hold on and improve the system of regional national autonomy. Forth, we should deal with the relation about the interests of ethnic minorities and national interests, caring about the economic interests of ethnic minorities.
