Deng Xiaoping Theory's Inheritance And Development Of The Chinese Traditional Culture

As one of the major components of the System of Socialist Theory with Chinese Characteristics, Deng Xiaoping Theory is the product of the combination of the universal truth of Marxism with the concrete practice of Chinese actualities; besides, it is also the theoretical fruit of Marxism in China. From the cultural perspective, Deng Xiaoping Theory is the combination of Marxism and the Chinese culture. It not only acts as an excellent advanced culture of the Communist Party of China (CPC) by putting the Marxism Theory into the practice of China's Socialist construction, but also is a container of the essence of the long traditional culture. Deng Xiaoping Theory is the localization of Marxism in China, presenting the basic theories of Marxism-Leninism and reflecting the outstanding principles of the Chinese people as well as the practices of the CPC members. Closely interrelated to the Chinese traditional culture, Deng Xiaoping Theory both inherited and surpassed the essence of the Chinese culture.This paper can be divided into three parts:First, the relationship between Deng Xiaoping Theory and the Chinese traditional culture is discussed. By the explanation of the Chinese traditional culture, the connotation of the Chinese culture from the narrow view of culture is defined. The relationship between Deng Xiaoping Theory and the Chinese traditional culture is discussed: the Chinese culture provided theoretical basis of the Deng Xiaoping Theory, which is reflected in two aspects: Deng Xiaoping Theory embodies many principles from the Chinese traditional culture, meanwhile, as one of the major theorists who established Deng Xiaoping Theory, Deng Xiaoping has a good knowledge of the Chinese traditional culture.Secondly, that Deng Xiaoping Theory has inherited and developed the Chinese traditional culture is explored in the philosophical, political and economical aspects respectively. Philosophically, the essence of Deng Xiaoping Theory "emancipating the mind, seeking truth from facts" corresponds to the high emphasis on practice and seeking truth in the Chinese traditional culture; the idea of identity in contradiction is in line with both the unity of the opposites in the traditional view of contradiction and the doctrine of the mean which emphasizes harmony in the unity of the opposites; righteousness and gain unified view is inherited from the traditional righteousness and gain values. Politically, reform is related to the traditional idea of reform and being flexible; the view towards people is in line with the traditional idea of regarding people as the foundation of the state; the idea of establishing a moderately prosperous society is the inheritance of the related traditional political views. Economically, the idea of getting rich together is consistent with the traditional enriching people of the state, and practicing thrifty also follows its related traditional ideas.Thirdly, the characteristics of the way Deng Xiaoping Theory inherits the traditional culture are discussed. These characteristics include: under the guidance of Marxism, the theory realizes the inheritance and development of the Chinese traditional culture by abolishing the influence of feudal remnants; it follows the cultural policy of "the past serving present, the old weeds bringing forth the new", and sticks to the rule "to earnestly study, assimilate and expand upon all that is best in the literary and artistic techniques of every land and every age"; it realizes the cultural inheritance and development on the basis of reference in the excellent cultural fruits of the western countries.
