The Historical Study On The Concept Of "the West" Of The Communist Party Of China

The using of the term of "The West" goes hand in hand with the process of the realization of national independence, the socialism, the industrialization & modernization and national revival. The article, according to the material from "People's Daily", is divided into four parts to carry on the discussion on this theme. These four divisions are 1947—1964, 1965—1976, 1977—1988, 1989 until now just as follows.After the foundation of the nation, in the continuous struggles for opposing imperialism, the notion of the west had been used to mean the imperialism and the colonialism. The socialist East certainly can very quickly defeat the capitalist West and Soviet Union became the revisionism and the breakup of Sino-Soviet relations caused the distinction of original East and West to bankrupt. The Communist Party of China was in opposition to the westernization in culture, because the westernization was equal to the restoration of capitalism, and learning from the West was restoring capitalism in China. Then Mao Zedong's the Three Worlds Theory made it possible that most of western countries could be united.At the beginning of the Reform and Opening-up Policy, the West appeared with the image of industrialization and developed country. After the June 6th Political Disturbance the political implication of the West reappeared. In China's future development, on the one hand we should learn from western experience, on the other hand we must beware of westerner's interference of our civil affairs and the peaceful evolution.The west is neither our standard, nor our goal, nor our final destination, but merely is a reference. Although"the West"is the main body of many questions when we carry on the understanding to, yet it can be seen as one kind of"the Discourse Prison". So to summarize the situation in one nation or in several nations by the standard of the West is just like taking a single tree as the whole forest. The Communist Party of China will not fulfill the mission endowed by the time until it exerts all its effort, learns from the western countries'experience and lessons at once and takes great strides along the road to socialism with Chinese characteristics.
