Abstract/Summary:
How to deal with relations between nationalities in a multi-national country has always been of great concern for each individual and group of political leaders, as this has great influence on the unity of the country, the social stability and development. When one chooses his or her spouse, it embodies a kind of social relations rather than an individual action. Especially the ethnic intermarriage, not only reflects the relations between individuals, but also the demarcation, evaluation and selection of a special race by couples. Under the majorities of cases, only when the numbers of different nationalities reach a state of harmony to a great extent at politics, economy, culture, religion and custom, and extensive social intercourse exist between them, can a lot of intermarriages be possible. From the point of this view, intermarriage can be seen as a result brought about by the harmonization of the relations between nationalities. At the same time, ethnic intermarriages in turn will enhance the deep-root intercourse between different nationalities through exchanges by the two families of the couple, will become the major factor to step up the further harmonization.The overseas scholars pay great attention to this issue, and give birth to a great deal of theories and experiential studies. On the contrary, the study about the ethnic intermarriages in our country has not reach a desired aim, produces few documents concerned and cases study concerned. With regard to a city, especially in the west national area, there are a few studies of ethnic intermarriages.The investigation on the spot, adopts the qualitative study and the quantitative study, and obtains the first-hand materials from the methods of questionnaire investigation, individual interview, and so on. In this thesis, the third part, based on the datum of marriages and divorces from the local bureau of civil administration, find that from the year 1993 to 2004, the proportion of the ethnic intermarriage between Mongolian, Tibetan, Hui and Han Nationalities reaches about 10%, and there exist extensive phenomena of intermarriage; The fourth, mostly from the 105 valid questionnaire, analyses and finds that the factors influence the intermarriage between the four nationalities, include age, culture level, occupation, language, intercourse circle, the notion of marriage, and so on; The fifth, based on what have been stated above, explores the traits about the intermarriage between the four nationalities, that involve the intermarriage between Han Nationalities and other three nationalities is comparatively prevalent, but it between the Mongolian, Tibetan, and Hui Nationalities is not so universal, which has a close connection with their religious belief, customs and inhabiting situation; The sixth analyses and summarizes the influence of such intermarriage. The study shows that, the intermarriage between different nationalities promotes the population growth of the minority, but brings disadvantageous influence on the succession and development in their languages and cultures. In addition to, the ethnic intermarriage promotes the further harmonious state of national relations to some extent, so that influence the national consciousness to some different degrees.
