Liberalism is the basis of theory of modern western democracy system . The issue of liberalism hasn't disappeared in the field of political philosophy .The traditional liberalists insist that the concept of social justice ,which is the basis of law and strategy, must go beyond all kinds of religions, cultures and metaphysics, and retains a neutral program;whereas the communitarianists think it is impossible to set up such a program. As a virtue, social justice must be built on the idea of individual perfection, otherwise there is no difference about justice between the mug and the saint. But the most important thing of understanding Rorty's political philosophy and the theory of liberalism consists in the issue of liberalism and communitarianism, and in the theory of liberal irony. Rorty defends liberalism by the way of pragmatism, he doesn't try to set up a philosophical foundation, such as human nature of individualism and Kant's critique of practical reason, and then constructs a tool on them to settle all kinds of issues. Rorty defends liberalism by partly violating the needs of foundation, by pointing out the contingent characteristics of liberalism society, and by sketching "liberal ironists" to describe the liberal society that he is longing for. "Liberal ironists" believe there is no final vocabulary to settle all questions, they think anything doesn't have real essence, and they think that anything can be made to look good or bad by redescribed. The activity of redescription looks more lightly than it had ever been taken, and redescription is a tool rather than a claim to have discovered essence.Richard Rorty sketches his ideal picture of liberalisim and clarifies his standpoint as an advocate of the lowest program liberalism by surpassing traditional liberalism and communitarianism, by pointing out the differencebetween the traditional metaphysician and "liberal ironists".
