Geographical indication is an important concept protection of intellectual property。In the world, from 1883, Paris Convention had begun to provide protection on geographical indication. From Paris Convention to the Madrid Agreement and Lisbon Agreement, then TRIPS. the relational language survived transformation from"indications of source"to"appellations of origin"and"geographical indication". Their content also has changed a great deal. At the same time, in the world, regional treaties and many other countries also protect geographical indication, just because each situation of country is different, their comprehension on geographical indication is different either. To our country, people take a great mistaken comprehension on geographical indication's concept, the concept of geographical indications usually is confused with the appellations of origin, indications of source or other concepts. This text will study the development and evolution of geographical indication systemicly from the angle of history, and compare it with other correlative concepts, so that to defecate the misapprehension. At last, this text analyses the characteristics on the concept of geographical indication in our country.
