| Forensic linguistics is a rising and special science, which discusses the relationships between law and language. Law means the principles, rules and regulations that are set up by governments, other authorities or customs. Law guarantees the development of social relationships and social orders, which can be applied to all the people of a community. It is closely associated with human lives.Language is a medium of communication, and of course, law is expressed by language which should be precise. Hov/ever, vagueness is one of the essences of language and so is the forensic language. Therefore, forensic language has been certainly influenced by a huge amount of vague expressions. Many scholars have done a lot of researches on vagueness in forensic English but less in forensic Chinese. Consequently, this thesis, on the basis of introducing forensic linguistics, gives a research of comparison respectively between Chinese and English vagueness in forensic language from semantic and pragmatic perspectives and tries to discuss the reasons of the existence of vagueness. And thus enhances the understanding of vagueness in Chinese and English forensic languages of English learners as well as forensic scholars. |
