This article researches on Cai Yuanpei's thought on Chinese political modernization in depth.This article insists that Cai Yuanpei's thought on Chinese political modernization included national independence and national unity, political authority modernization, political system modernization and political democratization. Specifically, First, national independence and national unity were prerequisites for Chinese political modernization. In modern China, to achieve national independence we must resist foreign aggression, abolish the unequal treaties. In order to achieve national unity, we must put an end to the feudal rule of the warlords rule, unify Mandarin and letter. Second, Political authority modernization and the modernization of the political system were Chinese political modernization content. We must establish a strong government, eliminate the Manchu privileges for the modernization of political authority. To achieve modernization of the political system, we must overthrow the absolute monarchy system and establish a bourgeois republican. We must implement Cabinet system, establish Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is necessary to legislate, the application of the rule of law. Third, political democratization is the goal of Chinese political modernization. To achieve political democratization must guarantee the people's rights and freedoms.Despite Cai Yuanpei's thought on Chinese political modernization had its historical limitations. But it still had important practical significance enlightenment for us today . From which we realize that we must have some conditions such as economic and cultural foundation, strong leadership by political parties and promotion by the government.
