On November 9, 2004, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced its final affirmative determination in the antidumping duty investigation of wooden bedroom furniture from the People' s Republic of China(PRC), finding that, With the exception of one company, Chinese producers/exporters made sales of subject merchandise to their U.S. customers at less than fair value from de minimi's to 198.08 percent for the individually investigated respondents, 8.64 percent for the 115 companies qualifying for a " separate rate" , and a PRC-wide rate of 198.08 percent applicable to all other imports. On 11th December 2004, The U. S. International Trade Commission determined that a U.S. industry is materially injured by reason of imports of wooden bedroom furniture from China. On December 27, 2004, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued an antidumping order on imports of wooden bedroom furniture from China.This dissertation makes an economic and legislative analysis on this U. S. antidumping case on Chinese wooden bedroom furniture. It consists of six parts. The first part makes literatures on antidumping theory and domestic research on antidumping issues and introduces the method and structure of this study. The second part analyzes thecurrent political and economic background and legislative basis of the U.S. antidumping and several legislative issues relating to U. S. antidumping on Chinese products. The third part analyzes the economic effects of the U.S. antidumping. The three following parts give a detailed introduction of the case and then make an economic and legislative analysis on it. In the sixth part, the author suggests some strategies to Chinese government and enterprises in the face of the U.S. antidumping accusations, at last, a policy suggestion is made by the author.
