For a long time, soil erosion has caused some environmental issues, such as theupper incisions and fragmentations, natural vegetation degradations, bio-diversitydestructions, soil quality drops, ecological deteriorations, etc. Soil erosion has causedgreat economic losses, so it is necessary to estimate economic losses caused by soilerosion independently. However, it is rare to take soil erosion as one independentecological disruptive phenomenon to estimate economic losses at present, even theexisting studies of economic losses caused by soil erosion are included in partial lossesof some ecological disruptions, such as forests, farmlands, meadows, etc. This can'tmeet the needs for China to realize sustainable development and scientific resourcesmanagement extremely. The significances to carry on estimation of economic losses caused by soil erosion are for thefollowing several points:Firstly, help for improving people's consciousness of defending soil erosion. Quantitativeestimation of economic losses caused by soil erosion can make people realize the threats and harmsto both human society and natural environment and it can also help to improve people'sself-knowledge and go-aheadism to prevent and cure soil erosion.Secondly, help for adjusting social and economic development aims in order to achievesustainable development. Estimating economic losses caused by soil erosion as an independentecological disruptive phenomenon is of great value to adjust local economic strategies.Thirdly, help for carrying on the work of the preventing and controlling soil erosion. In China, quantitative loss figures and amounts of money is sometimes much more powerful to persuadeauthorities at all levels in paying more attention to soil erosion. In order to reduce losses caused bysoil erosion to the maximum extent, we should combine ecological economy estimation caused bysoil erosion with relevant technology assessment and set up statistical system in this respect.Scientific estimation on economic losses caused by soil erosion is favorable for deciding earlier andtaking effective measures earlier.Yishusi Basin in Shandong Province is the area at relatively backward economicdevelopment level in Shandong Province, and it is also the most serious soil erosivearea in Huai He River Area. Yishusi Basin in Shandong Province with tanglesomelandforms, various land use patterns and uneven rainfalls causes serious soil erosion thatmakes great economic losses annual and also plays an important role in hindering localnational economic development. It is necessary to estimate economic losses caused bysoil erosion in this area, which avails to take countermeasures to soil erosion andachieve sustainable development by coordinating relations among society, economy andenvironment. So this paper chooses Yishusi Basin in Shandong, with seriously soilerosiion, as case study to carry on estimation about economic losses caused by soilerosion. The main points are as following:â‘ The paper appraises the present situation of soil erosion in Yishusi Basin in ShandongProvince and sets up soil erosion database by using modern technological means, such as RemoteSensing and Geographical Information System, etc.â‘¡The paper chooses some main material losses, such as N, P, K, organic content, the capacity of water or moisture in soil and detained soil and deposited soil, as themain indexes to estimate economic losses caused by soil erosion and sets the estimatingsystem of economic losses caused by soil erosion.â‘¢By drawing support of ARCGIS and using the basic principles and methods ofenvironmental economics, the paper estimates the monetary value of economic lossescaused by soil erosion in this area and gets maps of relative economic losses caused bysoil erosion in 1995 and 2000.â‘£In order to reflect the space-time distribution laws, the paper analyzes the... |
