China's foreign aid began in the year 1950. The Chinese government has within its capacity helped 163 countries in the world by providing non-reimbursable assistance, interest-free loans, preferential loans, care training, debt relief, emergency humanitarian aid, medical team and youth volunteers for these countries. Nearly 2,000 complete projects involving industry, agriculture, transportation, communication, education, health and social public facilities and so on have been built.Since China carried out the policies of reform and opening up, China's foreign aid has been developing continuously. The form of foreign aid is not an unalterable formula, and that's the reason why it has to change with the changeable situations both and home and abroad. However, the aim of the foreign aid policy has remained essentially the same despite all apparent changes. And the aim of the policy is the national interest, which is the primary principle that the Chinese foreign aid policy must implement. At the same time, on the basis of persisting existing advantages and by learning from international successful experience, China has extended the form and content of foreign aid in many aspects and on different levels and has also searched out a foreign aid road suitable for China's national conditions.Foreign aid has always been an indispensable part of the construction of Socialism with Chinese characteristics. Since China carried out the policy of reform and opening up, the aim and form of foreign aid have greatly changed with the rapid growth of economy in our country. This thesis, through studying systematically our country's foreign aid history of 60 years before and especially after the opening-up policy and by comparing our country's foreign aid policy with those of the western developed countries, aims to summarize the experience and lessons of our country's foreign aid policy. It also aims to search for the advantages and disadvantages of the foreign aid policy so that we can better cope with the increasingly complex international political and economic situation.
